Youth Group Ministry
Nativity Lutheran Church recognizes that our youth are a vital part of our congregation, and we nurture the relationship between God and these young people through our Luther League youth group. The members of the Youth Group enjoy fellowship with each other through regular meetings and a variety of activities, such as game nights, lock-ins, and service projects.
This ministry emphasizes the importance of service to the church and to the community in establishing a service-driven life. Members are encouraged to participate as acolytes and crucifers, and as ushers, greeters, and readers on Youth Sunday; and to assist with Vacation Bible School, the food pantry, church dinners, and other church activities. The group extends its service to the community by assisting organizations such as People Helping People and the New Beginnings Youth Shelter. It also provides a comfortable and safe environment where our young people can discuss the many things that they deal with in their day-to-day lives.
Every three years our Youth Group attends the ELCA National Youth Gathering, a convention of some 40,000 high school age teens from across the country. This week-long event features rallies, concerts, motivational speakers and many other fun activities, and also includes service to the community in which the convention is held. The trip is mostly funded by the youngsters themselves, through fundraisers such as bake sales, dinners, barbeques, pancake breakfasts, car washes, and other activities. The next trip, which is at the end of June 2018, will be in Houston, Texas.
Youth age 13 and older are welcome to become a part of Nativity’s Luther League. The group meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at 12:45 pm in the youth room, located next to Winemiller Hall.
